Brazil in Fourth Rank Globally in International Tourism Growth Between 2019 and 2025

Brazil has posted one of the strongest post-pandemic tourism recoveries in the world, according to the OECD’s Tourism Trends and Policies 2026 report. The country recorded 46% growth in international visitor numbers between 2019 and 2025, marking the largest expansion for the period and securing fourth place among the economies analysed.
International arrivals rose from 6.3 million in 2019 to 9.3 million in 2025, putting Brazil ahead of Japan (34%), Portugal (20%), Spain (16%) and France (12%), while regional rivals Argentina and Peru saw declines of 23% and 22% respectively.

Embratur president Bruno Reis linked the growth to strong momentum continuing into 2026: arrivals reached 5.2 million in the first half of the year, the second-highest on record, with foreign currency revenue hitting US$5.6 billion, up 12% year-on-year.

Air arrivals rose 13.3% to 3.53 million, making up 67% of total visitors. European arrivals grew 16.23%, their highest first-half total since 2006, led by Portugal (up 26.53%), Spain (21.73%), Germany (17.10%), the UK (11.29%) and France (6.35%).
